How Flight Cancellations Are Governed

At BookReservation.org, we aim to make flight cancellations and schedule adjustments as clear as possible. As an independent travel agency, all flight cancellations, date changes, and travel credits are governed by the fare rules and Contract of Carriage of the operating airline.

01

The 24-Hour US Cancellation Regulation

US DOT Rule

Under U.S. federal aviation consumer protection rules, passengers booking qualifying flights departing from or arriving in the United States may be eligible to void their reservation and receive a full refund without carrier penalty, provided both of the following conditions are satisfied:

  • The cancellation request is initiated within 24 hours of initial ticket purchase
  • The reservation was booked at least seven (7) days (168 hours) prior to scheduled departure
Important Note: To void an eligible ticket within the 24-hour window, you must contact our support desk immediately at +1 (000) 000-0000 so our ticketing specialists can void the GDS settlement before the reporting cutoff.

Ticket Classes & Fare Brand Rules

3 Fare Tiers

Outside the 24-hour void window, voluntary cancellation and modification options depend entirely on the specific fare family and cabin class purchased from the airline:

Tier 01 · Restricted

Basic Economy Fares

Generally strictly non-refundable and non-changeable after 24 hours. Voluntary cancellations typically forfeit the ticket value.

  • No voluntary date or route changes
  • No cash refund upon cancellation
  • Seat assigned at check-in
Tier 02 · Standard

Main Cabin / Standard Economy

Voluntary cancellations typically yield a non-transferable airline e-credit (usually valid for 12 months from issue date) minus any carrier penalty.

  • Future airline travel credit issued
  • Carrier change penalties may apply
  • Fare difference applies when rebooking
Tier 03 · Flexible

Refundable Economy, Business & First

Explicitly refundable fare brands are eligible for a refund to the original payment method, subject to carrier processing cycles.

  • Eligible for original-method refund
  • Permits schedule modifications
  • Subject to no-show cutoff deadlines
03

Advance Notice & No-Show Forfeiture

All voluntary cancellation or date change requests must be confirmed and processed prior to the scheduled departure of the affected flight segment. If a passenger fails to board a flight without canceling the reservation in advance ('No-Show'), the operating airline will automatically cancel all onward and return segments on the itinerary and may forfeit 100% of the ticket value.

04

Airline-Initiated Cancellations & Major Delays

If an operating airline cancels a flight outright, ceases service on a route, or implements a significant schedule change due to operational, mechanical, or weather events, passengers are generally entitled to:

  • Re-accommodation on the next available flight to the destination at no extra carrier fare
  • An airline travel voucher or full refund of the unused ticket portion per the carrier's Contract of Carriage
05

Agency Administrative Handling Fees

Please note that BookReservation.org (BookReservation Travel Services LLC) may assess a nominal post-ticketing administrative fee (typically ranging from $30 to $50 per passenger ticket depending on route complexity) to process voluntary cancellations, date modifications, or manual waiver filings.

This administrative fee covers specialist desk operations and GDS handling and is always disclosed to you for approval prior to finalizing any modification.
